Pool Update:

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff has diligently stayed on top of the guidelines set by the Governor’s office regarding pools opening. We were quite surprised when new guidance came out for modified Phase 1, especially after initially hearing that it would be Phase 3 before we could do anything. This excited us! We immediately thought of swim teams, lap swim, water exercise, and private swim lessons. We explored over the last couple days, our options, and if we could in fact make this work. Our pool is in a unique situation comparatively to other pools, since we have a renovation project scheduled to start in July. After careful consideration of the requirements for opening, we felt that it would be difficult to do so, to just turn around and have to close again in July. The restrictions are pretty intense coming from multiple entities like L&I, DOH, and CDC, including the ability to get all the guards up to date on their training-which even at this point, we have not had the green light to proceed with. Other factors include getting the pool back up to temp, the time and costs associated with that, making sure our safety plan is solid and adopted, and re-hire of staff to accommodate any programming we could operate. After this, there would need to be time allowed to drain the pool for the upcoming renovation, and after all this would be said and done, it would likely be close to closure for the project.

The good news is that upon opening at the completion of the renovation, some major improvements will have taken place, including resurfacing the deck and plaster pool liner, in-pool lighting, new diving board, ADA compliant pool lifts, spectator area repairs, and a climbing wall! This is going to make for a fun Grand Re-opening in September! Another piece of great news, all pass holder passes will be extended the length of the COVID closure plus the renovation, and we are happy to be able to do that.
